Another place to visit near Hwange National Park is Hwange Safari Lodge. This hotel is part of the African Sun group and it is, of course, an accommodation option in its own right, BUT it allows visitors to stop in for lunch, supper, or just a cold drink. The water hole in front of the lodge means that it’s a peaceful place to spend a couple of hours. It’s a lovely spot to visit if you’re driving enroute to somewhere else in Zimbabwe, or if you want a break from the game drive routine in Hwange.
The hotel was renovated in 2024 with in a natural, African-style design. It’s located just outside the Hwange National Park near Main Gate, off the A8 road from Mabale Cross.
This place is particularly special to my husband and I, because it’s the place where he proposed. We got engaged near the water hole while some elephants were splashing in front of us.
