Fight-or-flight moment

I’ve been poring over the mesmerising photos in Africa Geographic’s cover shot competition recently. They’re awe-inspiring, fascinating and poignant.

This picture of a bull elephant by Billy Dodson is my favourite because it captures the moment and tells the story so clearly: The strength of a 4-ton animal angrily proclaiming its territory. I can only imagine what it must have felt like from the other side of the camera: adrenalin pumping through your body; keeping your cool.
